The Kindergarten Program
We offer two classes of the program, morning (9:15 a.m. - 12:15 Noon) and all day (7:
20am - 1:55 p.m.). Our kindergarten follows the curriculum guidelines provided by the
Diocese of Covington. We include in our curriculum a phonics approach to language
included in The Letter People curriculum by Abrams & Co. Students also learn math
skills using manipulative's and our Harcourt Brace series. Other aspects of the program
include calendar time which reinforces math skills, patterning, and counting by 5's and
10's. Students are introduced to various units throughout the school year. Science and
Social Studies are covered in these units. Our kindergarten students receive religious
education through classroom activities presented by the teacher and also by the priest
and deacon that visit the class to discuss what's on the minds of these little ones!
Prayer services and education about the church building itself take place in the church
also.
In addition to the curriculum covered in the self-contained classroom, our kindergartens
also attend classes in Music, Library, Physical Education, and Computer once a week.
The students feel very much a part of St. Joe's entire student body!
The kindergarten class size is approximately 24 students with a full time teacher and a
full time teacher assistant.
